Alberta's COVID-19 contact tracing app has been used to track exposures only 19 times since it was launched in May.

Zoe Cooper, a spokeswoman for Alberta Health, confirmed Tuesday morning that since the ABTraceTogether app launched there have been 19 cases where an Albertan who tested positive for COVID-19 uploaded data via the app, which was then used to identify 70 close contacts.

'The more Albertans who download ABTraceTogether, the more effective it will be in helping limit the spread of COVID-19 in our province. We need each Albertan to do their part.'

Alberta and British Columbia remain the only two provinces that have not implemented the federal COVID Alert app. Warp tool photoshop cs4.

Alberta was originally planning to switch to the federal app, but Premier Jason Kenney has since backed away from that plan, claiming earlier this month that Alberta's app is 'simply a better and more effective public-health tool' because it is linked to the province's contact tracing network.

Alberta contact tracers have become so overwhelmed with the rising number of cases that the province recently stopped tracing except for cases in high-priority settings such as long-term care and health-care facilities and schools. Health Minister Tyler Shandro said last week the government recently posted 425 job openings for contact tracers and hopes to have more than 1,100 contact tracers working 'within a few weeks.'

Since the pandemic began, more than 40,000 Albertans have tested positive for COVID-19. https://soobusgocy1976.wixsite.com/softwareimpact/post/adobe-premiere-pro-2018-version-number. That means the 19 cases where an Albertan tested positive and uploaded data to the provincial app account for about 0.05 per cent.

Kenney is currently in isolation after coming into close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. In the legislative assembly Tuesday, Shandro continued to defend the province's app, saying that the low usage was 'a matter of scale.'

'A thousand people a day are adding on to the app, and we're thankful for those Albertans to relieve that pressure on our contact tracers,' he said.

Shandro said both Alberta and British Columbia officials have concerns that the federal app offers an anonymous notification to somebody who has come into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 without any assessment.

Both apps use Bluetooth technology to detect when users are within a certain distance of one another. The federal version notifies people when they have been exposed to someone who has been infected, while the provincial app collects data for use by provincial contact tracers.

The Alberta app has faced a number of issues, including the fact that it only worked on Apple devices if running in the foreground of an unlocked device. Kenney has said those problems were fixed, although at least one software engineer who performed his own tests says problems persist .

Meanwhile NDP Opposition Leader Rachel Notley said the government should apologize and move ahead with activating the federal app in Alberta, arguing that there is at least an element of 'petty politics' involved in the decision not to use COVID Alert.

'They argue that their broken app is better than the federal app because their broken app automatically links to their broken contact tracing system, and therefore it's better,' she said.

Shandro denied that the Alberta app was broken and accused the NDP of politicizing the pandemic.
